I had a traumatic embarrassing event several years ago, when a so-called friend revealed, amongst other friends within my earshot, a very embarrassing episode in my life. I pretended not to have heard the remark and left the group.

The problem is that the experience has opened up a Pandora's Box of other guilt-ridden and shameful events in my life, which replay over and over in my mind and the original remark made by this person has become a far larger issue for me. I regret not saying anything at the time, but my embarrassment was so overwhelming, I just needed to escape.

I don't know what to do to rid myself of these memories, life just seems an endless replaying of all my mistakes. I am in my fifties so you would think I could just forget these memories and get on with my life.
