Rob
Houghton
BAC
and UKCP Trained Counsellor and Psychosynthesis Psychotherapist
Recent History
|
In 2005, after 20 years work in personal development in London, I
settled in the Corbieres, 25 minutes south-east of Carcassonne. I
trained at the Psychosynthesis and Education Trust, London Bridge
and after qualifying, had an independent psychotherapy practice.
During my last eight years in the UK I worked full-time for the NHS
as a health adviser in several central London hospitals where I
offered short, medium and long-term counselling and psychotherapy.
For five years I was an external tutor to medical students at Queen
Mary and Westfield College, London and, until recently, taught
regularly at The Royal London Hospital and St Bartholomew’s Hospital
on the post-graduate medical teaching programme.

Psychosynthesis
The aim of this branch of psychotherapy is the reconciliation and
integration of seemingly conflicted elements within the personality.
Psychosynthesis takes a holistic approach to the person recognising the
needs of the spirit, the mind, the emotions and the physical self.
How do I work?
It is my aim at all times to ensure that the work is governed by the needs
and best instincts of the client. On the therapeutic journey I will go
only where the client is prepared to go. They are in the driving seat
and at best I am the observer and occasional navigator, helping them to
arrive safely at their destination.
I offer both face-to-face consultations and telephone work.
And how do I nourish myself so that I can be of use to other people? At
the professional level I have regular supervision where my work can be
scrutinised and informed within a setting which maintains client
confidentiality. Personally, I am sustained and re-created by pastimes
that include gardening, reading, music, nature and especially walking,
swimming and picnicking in this most beautiful part of the world.
I offer 6 and 12 week contracts which can be renewed. I do not charge
for therapy at the moment.
