PERSON-CENTERED COUNSELING ASSOCIATION was created in August 2007 as a
not-for-profit charity under the French association loi 1901 statutes.
It is registered at the sub-prefecture at Céret (Pyrénées-Orientales),
number W661000701. The association has six founder members (three
English and three French) and its director is Peter-Danton de Rouffignac,
an Englishman of French descent and a trained counsellor.
At present the Association is offering both group and individual
counselling in the following areas:
• ‘Retirement – paradise or hell?’ – a series of five 2 – 3 hour group
sessions involving between 12 – 18 participants over five to ten weeks.
• This series is also offered as a ‘training the trainers’ series
addressed to human resource managers, medical auxiliaries and anyone
whose role involves dealing with people approaching or undergoing
retirement.
• ‘Life after sport?’ – a series of information sessions and individual
counselling addressed to high level sportsmen facing retirement from
sport. Also offered as a ‘training the trainers’ session addressed to
managers, coaches, youth workers etc.
• Other group and individual sessions are offered including survival
after job loss, handling life transitions, mid-life crisis; and
addressing problems faced by students and young people (stress, sexual
orientation, unemployment, racism etc).
All sessions are offered at low-cost or no cost according to the means
of the user, and are in English or French; and held at a location
convenient to participants. Advice and help are also offered by phone.
The director of the Association Peter-Danton de ROUFFIGNAC MA LLM is an
Englishman of French descent, now semi-retired and living in
Argelès-sur-mer, about half an hour from Perpignan. He has a degree in
human resource management from Coventry University and a degree in law
by research from the University of Warwick. He has also undergone some
600+ hours of counselling training at Westminster Adult Education,
Morley College and the Pre-Retirement Association. A consultant and
author, he was a visiting lecturer and student counsellor at an American
multinational university in London for nearly ten years before coming to
France in 2002. One of his current areas of research is into retirement
from professional sport, in association with INSEP, the French national
training centre in Paris.
He is a member of AFP-ACP (Association Française de Psychothérapie dans
l’Approche Centrée sur la Personne) and abides by their code of conduct
as well as that of BAC in Britain. His counselling approach is person-centered
and modelled on Carl Rogers and Gerard Egan. Brochures and more
