Current As Deputy Unit
Manager in one of 4 residential units for children with emotional and
behavioural disabilities I am responsible for the active induction,
managing and supervision of up to 10 children and 6 project workers.
My role is to ensure that the highest possible standard of physical,
emotional and spiritual care is maintained in the unit at all times.

Mar 2006 My role as
counsellor involves working with refugees and asylum seekers waiting a
decision from the Home Office about their legal status. My clients had
divergent ethnic and cultural backgrounds. All were victims of some
kind of trauma e.g. political repression, torture, loss, detention,
hardship, exile. My role was supportive with the aim of trying to
promote adequate daily functioning and reduction of symptoms.

2004 I worked in police custody with problem drug users identified
through their contact with the criminal justice system. SMART offers a
confidential service which includes: crisis support, harm minimization
advice, comprehensive needs assessment, motivational interviewing and
counselling for those waiting to access specialist services.
2001-2004 Probation &
Welfare Service, St. Patrick’s Institution, Dublin, EIRE
As a probation officer
in a place of detention my role was to assist those in custody through
individual and group work to address issues related to their offending
behaviour, to take responsibility for their actions, to develop
awareness of the effects of crime on their victims and to enhance pro
social behaviour. My duties also included the development of
resettlement plans, by utilising community resources, to meet
accommodation, employment, training and treatment needs.
2000-2001 Elizabeth Fry
Bail & Probation Hostel, Reading, UK
As a project worker I
was responsible for the organisation and running of the daily program
for the residents. Ensuring that residents understand and adhere to
the rules of the hostel. I had individual key work sessions with
residents, using cognitive behavioural theory a basis. Issues such as
offending behaviour, substance misuse, and anger management were
explored in greater detail.
POSITIONS OF RESPONSIBILITY
- I held the position of
council member, then Secretary, for the Irish Association for the Study
of Delinquency (IASD) from 2001-2004.
I facilitated an 8 week
Parents Support Group for Reading’s Drug Intervention Programme
in 2004.
- I co-facilitate Critical
Incident Stress Debriefings for Premier Custodial Group.
I am a Graduate member
of the British Psychological Society and member of the British
Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy.
