I am a Therapeutic Counsellor, qualified with the Accredited Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling from Liverpool University and working within the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy Guidelines, and abiding by their Code of Ethics. I have an M.A. Degree in Criminology and a B.A. Honours Degree in Applied Social Science and am also a qualified Teacher of Psychology and Sociology. I trained in Rogerian Counselling (also known as Person-Centred Counselling) and I now work from an integrative model, which means that I use the approach and skills most appropriate to the needs of my Client. This could include Cognitive Behaviour Therapy; Psychodynamic work; Visualisation; Relaxation; Writing and Drawing; etc. Before moving to Brittany in 2003, I had worked as a Teacher, Social Worker, Counsellor and Special Education Project Coordinator for U.K. Local Authority Social Services and Education Departments. For five years I was a full-time Higher Education College Counsellor. I have also worked in residential care and young offenders’ institutions with vulnerable and disaffected young people, young offenders and non-school-attenders. I have many years of experience helping adults and children with issues including: Anxiety and Phobias; Bereavement and Loss; Relationships; Conflict; Difficult Choices; Stress; Health Worries; Confidence; Addictions - Smoking; - Alcohol – Drug Use; Physical and Sexual Abuse; Self-Esteem; Motivation; Eating Disorders; Self-Harm; Anger; Obsessive Compulsive Disorders; Sexuality etc. Counselling can be very helpful in dealing with these and other personal issues. It provides a safe and confidential place to share, explore and tackle problems. It is often the first step on a journey of self-discovery and empowerment, which can lead to a more fulfilled life. Many people move to France seeking a whole new life adventure but often they find it’s not easy to settle and they may feel isolated and deeply miss family and friends. Sometimes the longed-for dream doesn’t live up to expectations. People often move with the hope of leaving troubles behind, but troubles have a way of re-appearing if they’re not dealt with.
