Many people
suffer from psychological distress. Distress of this nature is very often
rooted in a difficult or traumatic childhood, more recent traumatic experiences,
or the pressures of everyday life.
Psychotherapy can be a very helpful way
of understanding the roots of our experience and how those roots affect our
present life. People come into therapy for example, with anxiety or depression,
fear of moving forward, bereavement, relationship difficulties, a sense of
meaningless, a loss of vitality, problems in motivation. The deeper meaning of
what is happening to us can easily get sidelined due to the stresses and
anxieties in our lives.
My work involves listening. I provide a
confidential space for you to express what you need to say in a non-judgmental
environment. We will probably naturally work with your family history to
understand how early conflicts may still be playing a part in your life. I also
find it useful to work with dreams and creative imagination so that we can
understand together more fully feelings and wishes, which might not be
altogether conscious.
I have been working with people with
emotional difficulties for over 20 years. I have trained staff and social work
students within this field and have worked in and managed therapeutic Centres.
I completed my training with The Association of Group and Individual
Psychotherapy (AGIP) London in 2002, and am a member of the UKCP and have the
European Certificate of Psychotherapy (ECP).
I work on short, medium and long term
bases.
As well as working face to face, I also
use Skype, webcam and the telephone for consultations.
