ELIZABETH HEALEY My name is Liz I have lived in the Manche region of Normandy (50) for the past four years after leaving the North of England where I had lived all my life. I am married with three non-dependent children and five much loved grandchildren and I have lost both my parents. I had a successful career in the U.K. for twenty two years and counselling was my second career. I worked long hours, I was aware that I had to slow down and have time for me, hence our move to France. Having had personal counselling myself whilst going through a difficult period in my life, I found I received a lot of support, empathy and understanding from my counsellor. After a period of counselling I felt more aware, I felt listened to and decided counselling was something I would be keen to know more about. I started a Diploma in Counselling Course September 1996. I had a twelve months placement at the Students Services Centre at Edge Hill University College Merseyside during my training. I gained my Diploma in Counselling as a person-centred counsellor July 2000. I worked part time for Huyton Marital Help Agency Merseyside. Personal counselling was necessary on this course; my tutor said she would make me aware when she thought this was necessary. During my first year of training I lost my mother, 2 weeks previous to my loss, the timing couldn’t have been better, it was suggested I go for personal counselling. At first, it was support counselling then the real work facing past and present problems. My course tutors made me aware of a changing process that might take place within me. These changes could be feelings of greater self-awareness, as well as changes of beliefs, attitudes, and values, which could lead to deep feelings and possibly tears. For me the tears have been therapeutic, releasing deep feelings and emotions from the past, helping to empower me for the future. I was becoming a stronger person who could say `yes` and `no` without feelings of guilt I also have knowledge about what it's like to move away from family and friends.! The first Christmas, sadness, loneliness, frustration, long telephone conversations, enormous telephone bills, the missed family celebrations..... All of these experiences, I believe, have given me tremendous insight into what it is like living in a foreign country. I am happy to speak with my clients on the telephone or face to face. The initial session with my client is one of mutual assessment and is free. This lasts about 30 minutes - please contact me about costs During the initial session, I will agree with my client the number of sessions that need to be appointed. This can be done weekly or fortnightly, whatever is appropriate. I would ask for payment of those sessions before we commence.
